Welcome to this website, with over 15 years competitive experience at all levels of the sport, I began my course design career in the early 90’s on the Brougham one day event course in Cumbria, in the North of England and I now build and design at 10 national and 2 international events up to FEI 3*** level. I am a British Eventing List A course builder and BE Technical Adviser. I have lived and worked in The Lake District for the past 25 years and I’ve been married to Lucinda for 11 years and we have 4 young children – Morgan (7), Francesca (5), Brodie (3) and Alexa (2). |

I believe great course design should establish a unique balance between the terrain of the venue, the flow of fences and the technical difficulty of the obstacles within the rules of the competition. I also firmly believe solidly built and well presented and framed fences with the correct profile invite a horse to jump well. Whilst all horse trial courses are ultimately competitions, I look to provide a progressive education for the horse and rider to encourage them to go on to try higher levels of the sport. I hope the information on these pages will give you a brief insight into my course designing, and if I can help in any way please contact me. Douglas. |
